Have a Thrifty Halloween

Free Treat Bag, Funlight, and Brach’s Candy!

CVS will be having a two-day sale Sunday October 19th and Monday October 20th where you can get two free Pumpkin Pails, Funlights, and 10 oz. bags of Brach’s fall candy after ECBs!

Homemade Halloween Costumes:

RobinsFYI.com has tons of great costume ideas that can be made from stuff lying around your house and bought from a thrift, dollar, or craft store. Costume ideas include all the old favorites like ghost, hippie, and scarecrow plus new ideas like the American tourist and bag of jelly beans.

Great cheap costume idea for littler ones:

Sleeper PJ’s become costumes very easily. Add a cotton tail and floppy ears: bunny. Long tail and upright ears, draw whiskers on cheeks: kitty. Those headband ears are pretty cheap. Safety pins make it all temporary, just unpin and ready for bed. With them all so young, a herd of colored bunnies would be cute coming up the walk. From Maggie on About.com

Homemade Halloween Makeup:

Create homemade Halloween makeup with household items as a cheaper alternative to store bought. Labor Of Love.com offers recipes on how to create basic face makeup, blood and bruises. Crafty Moms.com offers tip on how to create wounds, hair and eyebrows, and facial effects.

What to do with all the Planter’s Peanuts:

Looking to use up some of those Planter’s peanuts after all those $3 off coupons? Make a fall snack mix with peanuts, candy corn, and M&M’s. If you like, add raisins and pretzels. Click here for a $1/3 M&M’s printable coupon.

Too Much Leftover Candy?

Use the leftovers in your holiday baking. Use chopped Hershey chocolate bars for chocolate chip cookies, add Reese’s Cups to your peanut butter cookies, or get crazy and add chopped pieces of a variety of bars to a basic cookie recipe.

I started this website because I thought it would be fun, but after a while it turned into nothing but work. This post was the first one in a while that was truly fun for me to write so I hope you liked it! Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year and I could endlessly post about it. I want to give you all one of my favorite fall recipes … not sure how thrifty it is, but it is quite yummy.

Pumpkin Bars:

Bars: 2 C. Flour, 1 t. Baking Powder, 15 ounce can of Pumpkin, 2 t. Baking Powder, 2 C. sugar, 2 t. Cinnamon, 4 Eggs, 1 C. Salad Oil.

Mix together all ingredients. Bake in an ungreased (so the recipe says, but I always grease) 12X17 pan at 350 for 30 minutes.

Frosting: 3 ounce block of cream cheese (softened), 1 1/2 C. Powdered Sugar, 1 t. Milk, 3/4 stick of butter, 1 t. vanilla.

Mix together and frost once cool.

Decorate with Brach’s pumpkin candies.
