Get free directory assistance when you call 1-800-FREE-411 (or 1-800-373-3411). All you have to do is listen to a short advertisement.
The Good:
Wondering if this was real I read an article at Snopes and they had nothing but good things to say.
The Bad:
The system is completely automated. Some cities, states, and names are just hard to understand no matter how clearly your pronounce the word. If the system can’t understand you, you’re just out of luck.
The Ugly:
If you are using a cell phone make sure you listen to all prompts before pressing keys so you don’t opt in to receive text messages and then get charged. Visit the Free411 About Page for more information.
Update:
The Penny Pincher says that 1-800-411-SAVE uses live agents so you won’t have the problem that I had.

There are a number of free services for 411 out there that you can choose from. Take your choice. I prefer 800-411-SAVE because they use live agents and I don’t dealing with automation. Most services out there, Google, Microsoft, Chacho, etc are automated.
I’ll stick with 800-411-SAVE until something better comes along. Which one do you prefer?
1-800-411-Save sounds much better.
I use this all the time. So much better than paying to find out the number of some restaurant. It does take a bit longer. I remember hearing a news article one night about a year ago on tv and then used it and have used it ever since. The mcdonalds ads they always play are kind of obnoxious though.
In the interest of fairness, there’s a lot about our service that should be mentioned: business, residential, and gov’t listings, driving directions, Skype accessibility, searching by name or by category, plenty of limited time special offers, enhanced services via MyFREE411, and an excellent voice recognition system. Thanks.
