Trouble Printing SmartSource Coupons

Recently I have received some comments about trouble printing SmartSource coupons. These instructions are taken from the ‘Get Help’ link that appears in the lower-left of the SmartSource print window.

  1. Make sure you have installed the SmartSource Coupon Printer. You will be automatically prompted the first time you try to print a SmartSource coupon. Instructions for your particular browser will appear, but usually the download will begin after you click ‘activate’ and will only take a few seconds. Note: some anti-virus programs classify the coupon printer as a threat, but it is safe.
  2. You must have Java from Sun Microsystems installed on your computer. You should receive an automatic prompt. If not, follow this link.
  3. Make sure Java is enabled:
  4. For Internet Explorer v6 or higher:
    1. From the menu bar click “Tools” –> “Manage Add-ons” –> “Enable or Disable Add-ons…”
    2. At the top there is a drop-down box labeled “Show:”
    3. Choose “Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer” in this drop-down box.
    4. Next, click on the column titled “Publisher” to alphabetically sort the list by publisher.
    5. Look for anything by publisher Sun Microsystems, Inc. (may say “(Not verified)”)
    6. Click on each item you find with this publisher with a Status of “Disabled” and enable it.
    7. Click OK to save your settings.
    8. You should now restart your browser (close all open windows) and come back to the page you initiated printing from to try again
    9. Also, click Start –> Control Panel –> Network and Internet Connections –> Internet Options –> Advanced tab. Make sure the box for Java(Sun) is checked.
  5. For Firefox 1.x
    1. From the menu bar, choose Edit –> Preferences
    2. Select the Advanced category
    3. Check the box labeled “Enable Java”
    4. Click OK to save your preferences
  6. For Firefox 2.x and 3.x
    1. From the menu bar, choose Tools –> Options…
    2. Select the Content category/tab
    3. Check the box labeled “Enable Java”
    4. Click OK to save your preference.
  7. For Safari
    1. Click “Safari” and then “Preferences…” in MacOS or “Edit” and then “Preferences” in Windows
    2. Click the Lock Icon labeled “Security” at the top.
    3. Make sure “Enable plug-ins”, “Enable Java” and “Enable JavaScript” is checked.
    4. Close the Preferences dialog window to save your settings
  8. Make sure your computer meets the following system requirements:
    1. Windows XP, Windows Vista, MAC OSX 10.4 (tiger) or 10.5 (leopard).
    2. Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, Firefox 1 or higher, Safari or Google Chrome.
    3. SmartSource is compatible with AOL, but not with Windows 2000, CompuServe, Linux or WebTV.
    4. Connected to a working printer cabable of 300 dpi resolution. Coupons cannot be saved.
    5. Note: Your computer at work is probably behind a firewall that prevents the coupon printer from downloading.
  9. If all else fails, click here to contact SmartSource technical support.

  1. And for those of you who have done everything right and still can’t print, if you’re using Mozilla Firefox, switch to Internet Explorer. I have Java installed and enabled, but Firefox still won’t print the coupons. It works just fine on Internet Explorer! :) Hope this helps.

  2. Thanks so much for this info!!! I have not been able to print coupons from SmartSource & had given up. I had even contacted technical support & they were not much help. I followed your directions & can print the coupons now – thanks again!

  3. Question: Where are the bar codes on your coupons? Some stores will not accept these printable coupons without
    the codes.

  4. I had trouble using them, because there were no codes.
Perhaps the stores should advise the clerks how to
put the numbers in the cash register. I believe that is
why the numbers are on the coupons. Please help.

  5. i did all that but it say that my computer do not have previlages what that for

  6. I have printed Smartsource coupons for many years. Within the last week, the coupons are printing just a portion (the bottom center) and it is very enlarged. I feel that the printer program has been corrupted but cannot find where to un-install it. I have contacted Smartsource technical help but they don’t seem to understand what my problem is. Does anyone know how to un-install this so I can re-install it?

  7. Also looking for a way to uninstall the Smartsource coupon printer. Whenever I print coupons from Smartsource I get a thumbnail of a picture of the product only. I have tried contacting Smartsource to no avail. I use FireFox, have tried google chrome and safari. Tried changing the settings for the printer. I want these coupons :(

  8. I’ve been having the same problem as Alice – If you find out how to uninstall, let me know!

  9. I can’t print smartsource coupons (tried for 2 days). I have Java installed and use Internet Explorer, but when I go to “tools”/”manage add-ons” I do not get the option for “enable or disable add-ons”. Also in the “show” tab it lists a few options but “add-ons that have been used by internet explorer” is not there as an option. I also do not show anything for Sun Microsystems under “tools/internet options/advanced” either. Can you please help; I’m so frustrated I’m tempted to kick my computer (or maybe cry)… I’m in bad shape. Thanks, Shawna

  10. In IE click on tools, third otpion in the list that shows up is manage add ons. Click on that and if you have Java installed it is shown under sun microsystems inc. click on Java plug in and there is where you can disable it. It should be enabled all ready. But if it isn’t it should let you enable it.

    Hope this helps.

  11. I have never been able to print smartsource coupons until today! I tried everything I could find on the internet. What I did was change my printer settings to enable advanced printing features. It was that simple. Hope this helps someone else!

  12. Do you guy know what this software does? This is why MS Windows users get infected with spyware and viruses. I’m dealing with someones system right now because of it. You shouldn’t install this software or software like it from the web. They have no legitimate reason to ask you to install it. These are coupons for crying out loud. Everything that is necessary for you to print a coupon is built right into the browser. You can do that without this software. The reasons for demanding this are malicious. What they claim to want can be done without this software and it posses a risk to your systems stability and security. Now I’m not saying this software hasn’t run on your computer ‘just fine’. Malicious software can do allot of stuff without your computer letting you in on it. For instance it could bet sending your banking info, credit card numbers, and other details, taking up CPU resources, or just taking up space and causing havoc because somebody was too dumb to know what they were doing in the first place and decided to write a program to do something that should have been complete web-based. In the end it is costing you money. Are you saving at least $240 a year or more? Is it worth it? This badly written software that is slowing down the computer and causing you pain really worth the frustration just for a few coupons? That is what you are getting in exchange-plus the bills for the PC repair, the extra ram, the anti-virus software, and other endless upgrade cycles.

  13. I uninstalled, reinstalled, even verified installation of Java and installed updates. I double-checked that Java is enabled and still I cannot print coupons. I have restarted my computer multiple times. I keep receiving error notice that Java is not detected when trying to print coupon. I have Windows Vista and Microsoft Explorer 9 loaded. Help.

  14. Michelle L. says:

I am having AWFUL trouble. I have both Internet Explorer and Firefox. My IE is corrupt and will not stay open long enough to even get to a single website(Tried to uninstall and install several times) and of course Firefox works just fine. Smart Source worked just fine for me up until this weekend when I had to reset my computer back to factory settings, and I re-downloaded EVERYTHING, including the current form of Java. I have all settings correct. What in the world is going on????

  15. will not let me print coupons, can you only print one time?

  16. I tried to print and it wouldn’t let me print. I have downloaded the java again and it still doesn’t work. I looked for help on the smartsource site nothing. What do I do? HELP!!!!

  17. Wish someone from Smart soure would actually post a resolution…

  18. I realize these comments are old now, but I’m concerned that people didn’t notice Joe’s comments (June 4, 2010). He sounds very knowledgable and I have gotten this info from other sources, this type of software can be very buggy and even virus ridden and can cause a lot of problems. I think all of you who are having problems should consider this possibility. Is it really worth it? Contact Smartsource and tell them you want normal printable coupons as can be obtained elsewhere.

  19. I never thought I would have to understand this thank goodness for google

  20. Hey! Someone in my Facebook group shared this website with us
so I came to take a look. I’m definitely loving the information. I’m bookmarking and will be
tweeting this to my followers! Great blog and wonderful style and design.

  21. I have uninstalled java and reinstalled. I have windows 7. It will not print. It used to but honestly I think smartsource changed something. It wont print any now. It does not recognize java.. yet java is enabled and in my bottom bar. Its updated. on the java site you can check to see if its operable.. and it is. Everything checks out except Smartsource not recognizing it. I contacted them and they make it my fault. Well… something is up!!

  22. I DID THIS AND IT WORK!! WOOP, WOOP!!

CLINK HERE AND FOLLOW THESE STEPS: http://java.com/en/download/help/enable_browser.xml

LET ME KNOW IF IT WORKS OUT FOR YA!

    GOOD LUCK!!

  23. I’ve tried several times to download coupons from smartsource, and every time it says java is not enabled. I’ve tried on Chrome (updated), Firefox (updated) and IE. I’ve even updated to the latest version of Java, and in each browser it says it is not detected/ enabled. But yet when I go to the Java website to verify, it shows that it IS enabled.

  24. These are the responses that I received from SmartSource customer support regarding my problems printing a coupon. No matter what I wrote or how detailed I explained the situation they never seem to read my problem- they just copy and paste answers from their troubleshooting FQ section of their site. I give up with SmartSource!

    1. Dear Customer, Thank you for contacting us. SmartSource coupons usually have a print limit of 2 times on any one computer. If you share a computer with other users, they could have used those prints already. Also, offers can expire if the total number that the manufacturer made available has been met. This can be the case with popular items. Does this explanation help? If not, send us a message about your problem concerning a specific coupon. Please feel free to reply if you have any additional questions. Sincerely, SmartSource Coupons Support

    3. Dear Customer, Thank you for contacting us. Some offers may not be available for you to print even though you were able to select them. In that case, there will be a message after the printing screen that tells you if an offer didn’t print for this reason, usually because it reached a print limit. If there was no message like this, then another possibility is that the coupon files exceeded the amount of processing memory you have available. Try printing fewer coupons at a time. 4. Dear Customer,
    Thank you for contacting us.
You usually have a second chance to print any SmartSource coupon in case the first attempt failed. We can only tell if the command to print was sent to your printer. We cannot tell if your printer completed the action. After 2 requests, a coupon is no longer available.
Please check your printer/browser before you try printing any more.
Please feel free to reply if you have any additional questions.

    Sincerely,
    SmartSource Coupons Support
