UPDATED: Summer reading helps kids and teens retain and enhance their reading skills while school is out. Below is a list of FREE summer reading programs that offer freebies for participation.
Kids in grades 1 through 6 can get a FREE book from Barnes & Noble when they participate in their Summer Reading Triathlon. Just complete the form here and take it to your local store when finished. Program runs 5/17/16 through 9/6/16.
Students in grades Kindergarten through 12 can earn up to $10 ($2 per book) during Cap Com Credit Unions Fall, Winter and Summer Reading Programs (up to $30 per year). Cap Com FFC has 16 locations in the Syracuse, NY area.
Kids can get 10 FREE tokens when they read every day for two weeks. Just fill out the calendar here and take to a participating location. Food purchase is required. Limit one free token offer per day. This offer is available year round. Click here to find a location near you.
Kids up to 8th grade can earn $5 in Bookworm Bucks each month by reading 15 minutes per day and bringing their completed reading log into a store (parents can read to those who can’t yet). Those in high school will receive $5 per month when they read one of HPBs recommended titles for teens and bring a short review of their book to a store. Limit one reward per person, per month. Most local libraries offer summer reading programs and may provide prizes and other incentives for your child’s participation. Contact your local library for more details.
Children aged from birth to 11 years can join the Rewards for Reading program. You will earn prizes for every 5 hours of reading . These include magazines, comics and audiobooks. Children who are still learning to read can also claim the time spent when their caregivers read with them. The total goal is 20 hours, but kids that keep reading can earn more prizes with the Summer Reading Raffle. Metro Bank has 34 locations in central Pennsylvania.

Bookworm Wednesdays entitles kids to FREE admission to a select children’s film when they present a book report at a participating Cinema de Lux, Showcase, or Multiplex Cinemas box office. Kids under 6 and parents with a participant will also be free. Click here to find a location near you.
This year round program is a fun, free way to motivate your child to read! Kids in grades K-8 can search for books, read them offline, come back to quiz on what they’ve read, and earn prizes for their reading success. Prizes include a 3 month Highlights magazine subscription, candy bar, temporary tattoos, CD, and books.
SYNC is a free summer audiobook program for teens 13+. Running May 5th – August 17th 2016, SYNC will give away two complete audiobook downloads a week (30 titles) – pairs of high interest titles, based on weekly themes. In 2014, 26 titles were given away over 13 weeks. In 2015, 28 titles were given away over 14 weeks.
Kids ages 18 years and younger can get a FREE $10 added to their new or existing TD Bank Young Savers Account when they read 10 books this summer. Offer valid 6/1/16 to 8/31/16. Click here to find a location near you.
